The Future of Magazines

So Time Inc. just showed off there new magazines that are going to be debuting on tablets in the upcoming months/years and it looks pretty cool. I think they could make it better, nothing they showed is really revolutionary and can be done now with a basic computer. I personally think that the designers need to push the envelope a little bit farther and really blow us away. The way Apple would. The End.

The Apple Tablet

A Tablet Rendering

So, we all know its coming. We know it is Steve Jobs pet project. Of course Im refering to the Apple Tablet. And it looks like speculation or not, Wired Magazine has developed its new platform they wrote especially for the Tablet. They are betting that Apple will revolutionize the print industry just like they did with Music and Phones.

Heres a Video.

The Google Navigator

So Google recently announced a navigation app that is destined to change the game. Not because its an innovation, but because it is free. The Nav App has officially been released for all phones running the latest android build and is promised for the IPhone. Everyone reported that Tom Tom and Garmin both lost significant points on there Stocks when this was announced but this is a non issue because its purely driven by speculation. Speculation that Google will do better at what these companies do best. Doubtful. Being brand new, Google Nav suffers from a lot of deficiencies. First, it only can guide you when you have cell phone reception. Dedicated Nav Units are always connected and don't suffer from cell phone reception. And two, in a recent review by Engadet show that the app has a long way to go on giving directions that actually work. All in All, Don't throw away those dedicated navigation units yet. Check the video out below.

Jason Schwartzman's new comedy Bored To Death is Hilarious. Its on HBO, Sundays at 9:30. Stop depriving yourself and tune in.

Put This In Your Living Room.

This is the Eames Lounge Chair and it is my favorite chair. Ever. It has a high price tag but if you want to be a design connoisseur on a budget pick up a reproduction from an online retailer. It will make your living room look better. Period.

Mmm Mmm Better: The 2010 Toyota 4Runner

Have you seen the new 2010 Toyota 4-Runner yet? Oooo it looks Mean. Real Mean. First off, I love the direction that toyota is taking their cars, making them more aggressive and fuel efficient. The new 4-Runner comes in 2.7 liter 4 cylinder or a 4.0 liter V6, and on the plus side its not so gargantuan like the Tundra (or Sequoia) that just screams compensating.

Thats A Bright Idea: Pantone Mugs

I stumbled onto these mugs for tea and coffee after my good friend and mentor Kristen came up with an idea to create a mug that was painted on the inside to match the color of your perfectly prepared coffee insuring consistency by color. It would have made a shit ton of money if it didn't already exist.
Pantone Mugs.

New Kicks: Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens Dr. Martens Dr. Martens. Shoes. They are back and these are mine. I haven't ordered them yet but I might as well have.  These are some nice looking booties. Urban Outfitters has them for $150. Attack!

This Is Your Next Notebook.

So while Apple continues to work on its touch screen tablet, that rumors say will look like a giant 9 inch ipod touch, Microsoft has been hard at work on its own tablet that looks, well awesomely useful. Check the video above to see the awesomeness in progress.

Vroom Vroom: The Ducati Sport 1000

The Ducati Sport 1000. This bike is hell on wheels and the retro styling will make anyone look good. If you are feeling particularly edgy get black. Now we just how to figure out how to ride these things without dying. Vroom Vroom.

Get a Macbook on the Cheaps!

Verizon Uses "Facts" to Diss AT&T

This week Verizon Wireless unleashed a new add specifically targeting AT&T and the coverage it provides. Now in all fairness AT&T never said they had the largest 3g network, I believe their tag line is America's Fastest 3g network (which is debatable). Of course Im sure that AT&T will come out with a rebuttal that will point out Verizon's infinite wisdom to decline Apples initial offer to carry the Iphone (whoops) and then constantly release phones nobody wants. There is a lesson in all of this. If your going to attack a carrier, follow Alltel's lead (Chad) and attack all the competing carriers at once.

Dear John Letters: The Land Rover Defender.

In 1997, the last Land Rover Defender was shipped in the United States. Due to changing safety regulations (Airbags) it was determined that it was not economically viable to continue selling them in the US. Well it is now 2009 and I feel that with all the innovations that we have achieved in this world, one of those should be the airbag in the Defender. So Land Rover. Lets Make This Happen. Please and Thank You.

Who still uses books: The Kindle

So Amazon started pre-selling the US/International edition of its ebook reader, The Kindle. So whats different? Whats That On Your Ipod: Phoenix

The newest Phoenix album, entitled Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, was actually released this last May, but hey I didn't have a blog then so that is that. Basically the album is amazing and wont disappoint: so go buy , steal, or borrow the album now and start blasting.

The Future of Trailer Parks... Hopefully.

So in last Octobers Issue of Dwell Magazine they featured the double wide trailer see above in an article called Upwardly Mobile Homes. "When it comes to real estate, the trailer park gets a bad rap. But some designers think that this forsaken corner of the market is worthy of reevaluation—and even resuscitation." I have to agree whole-heartedly especially when the housing market has shown us that we need to rethink "traditional" housing. Read the rest of the article here.

Stop Buying Crap Headphones... Please.

Everytime I walk down the street I cant count how many young people I see listening to music with "Crap" Headphones. One particular brand jumps out at me, Skullcandy. Tattoo'd with all sorts of graphics and other things that do anything but actually make your music sound better. Whats even worse is that the amount of money that people throw right out the window. So my advice. Pick up some Grado SR-60i and treat yourself to undoubtedly some of the best headphones $80 can buy.

Fall Is Here Now Get A Decent Sweatshirt

Image Courtesy of Blackbird in Ballard

Reigning Champ's Raglan Zip Hoody. I Like It. It looks good. And it will keep you warm. What more can you ask for in a sweatshirt ? This baby is running $148, but you know what they say; If you want to look good its not going to be cheap.

One Wallet To Rule Them All

If your in the market for a new man purse and want a lot of style for not a lot of dough Gargyle, a boutique in the Lower East Side of Manhattan has a pretty sweet selection. My favorite is the ACNE Switzpouch which is guaranteed to only get better with age. And lets face it, for 80 bucks not a whole of things in life can guarantee that.

Drink of the Week: The Caipirinha

Hailing from the Portuguese this drink is refreshing and potent. guaranteed to make happy times happier.

The Recipe:

  • 1/2 Lime cut into 4 wedges
  • Light Brown Sugar (2 Tbsp.)
  • Ice
  • Cachaça (ka-shah-sa) (I prefer the brand 51 Cachaca)
  • Sprite
  1. Cut the lime into 4 wedges (not slices)
  2. Muddle the lime and throw in the sugar.
  3. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  4. Pour in the cachaça.
  5. Stir or Shake (If you have cocktail mixer use it)
  6. Top your glass off with a little sprite
  7. Serve with a straw.

The Clubmaster

If your looking for a great new pair of stunner shades one trip to Rayban should satisfy your quo. The re-emergence of the brand is really a lesson everyone in the marketing world should study. Now go pick yourself up some decent shades that will protect you from going blind. Good deals are to be had at Eyesave.

The Daily Rant: The Apple TV

Apple is always insinuating that they are the innovators. So when they came out with the Apple TV the potential was huge. Crash and Burn. First off, The Apple TV has nothing to do with Television. It doesn't record Television, It cant view television. What they should have called the Apple TV was The Apple Itunes Delivererer. It ports your Itunes movies and downloaded content to be viewed on your tv. Granted it does this well, my Iphone can also connect to a TV with a video out cable and do the exact same thing. Matter of fact my computer can do the same thing all saving me from spending $229. So Innovation may have been an overstatement. So to Apple, when you redesign the Apple TV please introduce features that my 15 year old VCR can do and put a record button on it. All in all. Stay Away from this shit.

Looking For A New Phone?

If your in the market for a new phone, your just in luck. Never has there been so much competition that has benefitted the consumer but you have to know what you are looking for. Here are my top picks for phones by carrier and right now Sprint seems to be the best deal with its simply everything plan at $70 bucks gives you unlimited text, minutes, and data. No matter how you look at that, its a bargain. I pay well over $80 bucks for my Iphone plan and I only get 450 minutes and 1500 texts and my service is less than perfect. These phones will literally do just about anything you want them to except wipe your ass.

In No Order. My Recommendations Are:

The Apple Iphone - Featured on AT&T
The Palm Pre - Featured on Sprint
The HTC Mytouch - Featured on T-Mobile
The HTC Imagio - Featured on Verizon Wireless

Daily Irony

"Saturn Builds Cars Americans Want." Thats what the commercial says right? Well if that were true, Saturn would still be around right? Awkward. Good Bye Saturn. Oh and those competitors, they are still around.

The Nixon Time Teller P

So Nixon released a whole slew of Nixon Time Teller watches in all shades of color that you could possible want. The watches are Japanese Movement and are really inexpensive ($55) which is always a plus. Just what you need in a time where the watch scene is dominated with oversized watches that scream tacky. Now go get some style.

Enter the Zune HD

In a time when it seems that Microsoft cant get anything right, they go out and pull a 180 on us. Let me be the first to say the first and second iterations of the Microsoft's mp3 play player debut were less than stellar. The Zune was by far the shittiest experience that I had ever experienced, its industrial design was lacking in every way and could only be worse if it were literally a brick. Enter the Zune HD. Its a very aesthetic and sleek player featuring a 3.3" OLED multi-touch display with a 480x272 resolution. Other features include built in WiFi, HD Radio, and a web browsing experience. Pretty Solid competitor against everything else thats out there at this price point. The 16gb and 32gb renditions are currently at Amazon going for $219/$289 respectively. Now if they will just pull a Palm and get this baby to sync with Itunes.

Filson's Rucksack

Image Courtesy of Blackbird of Ballard

Filson is a name that has always been synonymous with classic, dependable, and quality bags. And there newest mochila doesn't disappoint. Made from there classic waterproof canvas and bridal leather straps the bag is an attention grabber, a far cry from your tattered Jansport. Blackbird carries a bunch of Filson Gear but a google search for the ruck will bag you the cheapest price, usually around $200.

The Panasonic DMC-GF1

So Panasonic has released the newest addition to the Micro Four Thirds line up in the badge of the DMC-GF1. First off, I must say that is one sexy camera and if the performance is on cue with the styling its going to be a must have. I have grown very attached to my Panasonic DMC-LX3 and to date that camera is still hard to find, case in point if your interested in scooping up the new GF1 do it sooner than later (like yesterday). The GF1 is rocking a 12.1MP sensor and is shooting 720P HD Video. The lenses that are being paired with the camera are a Lumix G 20mm F1.7 and / or Lumix G 14-45mm F3.5-5.6. If you head over to DPreview they went ahead and did a preview of the camera before they offer there full in depth review and it looks good. Real Good. Kits are selling on Amazon for $899, so go buy one.
